It was an absolutely beautiful day to drive to Asheville…sunshine, crisp air, and the trees showing off their full autumn colors. I had never been to the Craggy Gardens portion of The Blue Ridge Parkway, and let me tell you…it DID NOT disappoint!
The fiery yellows, oranges, and reds suddenly changed to an otherworldly environment of gnarled trees and craggy foot paths. Seriously, I’m talking like Lord of the Rings type stuff here! We watched the mercury plummet further and further down as we made our way up the parkway.
I had met Greg and Emily once before at their pre-booking meeting, and I knew they were going to be a pleasure to work with. I have to say that they were absolute troopers and had a blast with each other every step of the way.
It was cold as we made our way through the gnarled rhodadenron groves, but was we reached the summit the trees cleared and our shield from the wind was gone. I checked my phone at the top, and it was a cool 37 degrees with 35+ mph wind gusts! Not to mention, Greg and Emily decided to do their wardrobe change after we reached the top. Talk about a cold dressing room!
But, it was totally worth it. Sun-drenched vistas and overlooks made for some nothing-short-of-magical shots.
I’m proud and excited to present to you…Emily & Greg’s Craggy Pinnacle engagement session.
The day started before the sun made its appearance, 4:30am to be exact. We headed to western North Carolina and as the sun began to peak over the horizon, it became apparent why we had decided to start the day so early. The crisp mountain air, the waterfall rushing over the cliff, the birds singing, the mist and breeze blowing off the falls...this was going to be a fun session.
Dallas and Amanda made the same drive and arrived shortly after I did. They got out of the car and I knew it was going to a great time. And did I mention...they are troopers! They braved a 2.5 hour drive, a 7:30am shoot time, and freezing cold mountain water. Anything for the shot right?
Their love for each other was definitely apparent, as they would whisper in each other's ear, laugh, and hold each other. The session ended with the couple chest deep in the pool below the falls...pure magic.
I cannot wait to spend their big day with them at Lake Tillery.
Please enjoy Dallas & Amanda's engagement session!
Parker and Makayla's engagement session was actually the first time I had met them, but honestly, it felt like we had known each other for years. We walked and explored all over Pilot Mountain State Park in Pinnacle, NC.
The sun was slowly setting as we made our way through the park. It worked out just right, as we ended our time together on the sheer rock outcroppings on the side of the mountain as the sun was glowing orange on the horizon in the distance. It really was such a romantic location, and by the time we reached our final photo spots, Parker and Makayla were super comfortable and loose, which made for some super romantic, dream-like shots! I can't wait to shoot their wedding in October.
Enjoy Parker & Makayla's engagement session!
I've known Daren and Paige for a few years now, so it was a huge honor for them to ask me to shoot their engagement session. It was a beautiful Saturday evening at Morrow Mountain State Park, which just so happens to be where they're exchanging vows in a few months. Green meadows, lakeside forest, and a beautiful sunset...all the ingredients for a magical shoot.
I'll let you be the judge!
After Olivia's initial consultation, I knew she was going to be so much fun to work with. Young, fun-loving, against-the-grain, tattooed (its a community), and honestly she was just so excited to let me be creative with telling her and Isaiah's story, which REALLY excited me.
We met on a beautiful Saturday evening at a huge tree in a small town near Charlotte, NC. I had never met her fiancé Isaiah before and I didn't really know what to expect but, he was one of the kindest, gentlest, and most loving guys that I think I've ever met. Throughout their session he was constantly telling Olivia, "I love you...Your eyes are so pretty....I love you." I mean...come on!
The huge tree has great significance to Olivia and Isaiah, as the tree is symbolic of Psalm 1:3...
"He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers."
My prayer for these two is that they will delight in the Lord all the days of their marriage and keep Him at the center.
These two are just too cute. Enjoy!
